Nanning E-Bike Mayhem
E-bikes, or electric bikes, are one of the most popular methods of inter-city travel for many places in China. Nanning is no exception, but near as I can tell, it is one of the largest cities that still lacks hearty regulation on what is and isn't allowed when it comes to e-bikes. Because of this the e-bikes are out in droves, swarming through and around car traffic more than anywhere else I've seen.
Honestly, I think it's pretty awesome. It adds to the chaotic organized mess that is traffic in China. A daunting task to an outsider, actually maneuvering around in the mess is really fun. In a lot of ways, it's almost like a slightly more dangerous amusement park. The traffic is plentiful and chaotic, but super slow. Passing cars and swerving between other e-bikers gives the illusion of feeling like a badass, while actually just going to work or the store.
